Beautifully crafted and set under gorgeous Oklahoma skies, this poignant
and wryly funny story of family and healing begins the morning
Cufe Smallhill (Cody Lightning) finds his father quieter than
usual, an empty bottle of pills at his side. Fulfilling his dad’s
wish, Cufe sinks his father’s body in the pond to spare him the
circus of a funeral. Cufe, his cousin, and mom decide to fake
a funeral to satisfy the community, and Cufe’s beautiful tormented
sister Miri (Tamara Podemski) comes home just long enough to convince
Cufe to leave and visit her in the city.

Reserve life, family problems and the death of a close friend push Kaitlyn
into a deep depression. Following a suicide attempt and a lengthy
hospital stay in a strange city, she finds herself in group therapy
with the other Anishinawbe youth. Despite differences in their
backgrounds and personal struggles, they begin to find strength
and support in each other. Kaitlyn makes new connections to her
culture and the people around her. However, a series of new tragedies

Gathering documents an event in 1998 when indigenous elders from
around the world gathered on the South Australia coast, invited
there by Bunna Lawrie of the Mirnings, an Aboriginal people who
believe the region is a portal into the Dream Time. Among the
guests: Julian Lennon, a Bashi wisdom poet from Congo, Hawaiian
Pua Mahoe, Maori Pauline Tangiora, Yolngu elder Jonny Barramula,
and Siraku Tegri, of the Colombian Uw'a tribe. Named "Best
Film" at the Byron Bay Film Festival, The Gathering tells
the epic story of a people disconnected from their sacred ancestral
lands, from their culture, and from the whales with whom they
